At Whitmore’s Timber we’re always happy to support the local community. When we heard that Friends of Brandon Wood were in need of some oak timber for an exciting new restoration project, we were happy to step in.
Friends of Brandon Woods are a group of volunteers who protect and maintain the 178 acre Brandon Wood, which was the first community woodland in England and has been solely owned by the group since 2000. It is now a Planted Ancient Woodland Site (PAWS).
Volunteers from Friends of Brandon Woods stumbled upon a logging cart while clearing the debris from Storm Doris. The age of the wooden cart is estimated to be in excess of 120 years old, and the group are now in the process of restoring it for display in the wood.
The first challenge that the group are facing is that they need to construct four large solid oak wheels. Keen to see this project succeed and keep the outgoing costs down for the volunteers, Whitmore’s Timber are gifting them the oak timber they need for this.
Forest management and conservation are both issues that we’re very interested in. All of our hardwood timber is sustainably sourced, and we’ve been able to gain environmental accreditations from a number of leading certification schemes including the FSC (The Mark of Responsible Forestry) and the PEFC (Promoting Sustainable Forest Management).
You can buy our hardwood timbers online or by visiting our yard in Leicestershire. We have the right wood for any project. Although we don’t keep replacement wheels for logging carts in stock, we do have a good range of solid oak skirting boards, external timber cladding, oak spindles and more ready to ship
