Established in 1890, Whitmore’s Timber is a long-standing Importer and distributor of European, American, and Tropical hardwoods.

Our vast stocks, customer friendly practices and wide range of services -including structural grading, bespoke machining and kilning allow us to lead the market as a trusted and credible one stop hardwood timber supplier.

Whitmore’s is Born


Business founded by T.G.Whitmore, originally a blacksmith & wheelwright.


Austin Whitmore, son of T.G.Whitmore, started milling home grown round logs.

41ft Oak beam supplied for St. George’s Chapel.


Windsor and William Mallinson & Son acquire all shares of Whitmore’s Timber Ltd.


Having been laying maturing for 8 years, Whitmore’s supply Oak for The Old Bailey doors.


Whitmore’s Timbers site in Bury St Edmunds was bought by the Ministry of Transport, so the company relocated to its current site in Leicestershire.


Installation of vacuum kilns.


Supply of timber for The Globe Theatre, London.


Whitmore’s Timber is acquired by Michael Smee.


Old mill closes.


Whitmore’s Timber opens new mill.


Michael’s son, Christopher Smee, appointed as Managing Director of the company.
