Lebanon Cedar

The Cedar of Lebanon tree is a light reddish colour, with creamy coloured sapwood. Soft and easy to work with, but also brittle.

Durability:

Rated as very durable, and generally resistant to insect attack.

Elastic Modulus: 1,465,000 lbf/in2 (10.10 GPa). Crushing Strength: 6,090 lbf/in2 (42.0 MPa).

Seasoning:

Has a long-lasting, sweet scent that’s sometimes used in making perfume.

  • Garden furniture, panelling and organ building
  • Veneer, cabinetry, building construction, and turned objects
  • Lebanon Cedar also makes wardrobe backs, line chests of drawers and special pieces like travel chests and jewellery boxes

Description

The Cedar of Lebanon tree is a light reddish colour, with creamy coloured sapwood. Soft and easy to work with, but also brittle. Obtainable in large sizes of up to 36” wide, but normally very knotty (these can be small black knots or large firm knots, which vary from the size of a penny to a cricket ball). Lebanon cedar has a sweet smell and can be very decorative with a variety of grain and knots.
