This high quality ‘button’ French Polish has a heavy concentration of shellac to give the traditional amber glow associated with fine furniture. It can be applied to bare wood or over Shellac Sanding Sealer.
Directions for use.
Prepare the timber in the normal way.
For best results French Polish should be applied using a ‘rubber’ (a wad of polisher’s wadding wrapped in a square of lint-free cotton). Charge the rubber by pouring the polish into the wadding and sqeezing out the excess. The rubber should feel cold to touch, not wet, and should be worked across the surface of the work in a figure of eight motion.
Repeat this process unit the desired depth of colour and gloss is achieved.
To finish, wipe lightly in the direction of the grain using a rubber dampened with methylated spirits.
If necessary the rubber may be lubricated in the later stages with a small amount of raw linseed oil.
