A bush or small tree which attains a height of up to 15m. The fruit produced by this tree is known as the Banksia nut. The fruit may be up to 4 to 9 inches long with an average height of 6 inches. The nuts must be picked from the tree when mature and this can take several years. The nuts are hard and solid, with seed pods running from the outside, towards the centre core. The nuts are surprisingly light-weight but considerably hard with at light red or light brown tone, Banksia nuts are commonly used in wood turning, they can be created into many things such as decorative items, cabinet panelling, giving a very unusual result.
