In addition to selecting and grading timbers to your cutting list we are able to offer a full bespoke cutting service. Our skilled machinists are able to cut boards to your required sizes to help you achieve your final objective with minimum effort.
If sawing just isn’t enough then we can also cross-cut boards to your finished dimensions to assist you with the final fitting.
Logs are sawn through and through or cut with one square edge, and then seasoned. Some of the larger logs, especially the longest and the straightest, are set aside to stabilise for two to five years. Many of our larger Oak logs are quarter sawn in the traditional way.
Cut Through (T/T)
Plain sawn, crown cut boards with some figured wood close to the centre of the log
Wainscot material produces some figured boards and is also easier to work with as a straight edge is already provided
Fully Quartered (Qtr)
All figured boards and planks, quarter sawn boards are naturally more stable than plain sawn, crown cut boards.
The decorative feature known as medullary ray “figure” occurs in boards and planks cut radially
